He was chosen to be a Flex Developer Community Champion by Adobe for his hard work and dedication to the Flash Platform Community. Sean is a certified Flash developer and also a certified Flex developer. Sean specializes in the development of Adobe AIR applications. He is the creator of the ActionScript Cheatsheets. Sean has also given presentations at various user groups on best practices for Flex development.
In addition to his passion for Flash Platform based design and development Sean has been involved with music since he was about 10 years old. He started by teaching himself how to play an old Gibson acoustic guitar that his Mom gave him. He started playing an electric Ibanez in 8th grade and continued playing in his high school’s band program. During this time he started playing in a few punk and ska bands. While with these bands he played a few live shows and also became involved in the local punk scene. He worked for a venue called the Downtown Performance Center (DPC) that most alternative, punk and ska bands frequented in Tuscon, AZ. He worked every weekend at the DPC and was influenced greatly by this experience.
At the end of the 9th grade Sean started getting more and more interested in Underground Hip Hop. In the 10th grade Sean started freestyling and got his first pair of belt driven turntables and a Radio Shack mixer. His interest and passion for Underground Hip Hop exploded and he began DJ’ing at house parties regularly. He continued DJ’ing throughout high school and through college. After moving to Denver in the late 90s to begin a job doing courseware development Sean started getting involved in the Denver Underground Hip Hop scene. He continued to DJ house parties throughout the late 90s and also helped promote the Denver Underground Hip hop scene. He’s opened for nationally known groups like Planet Asia and Zion I. He also opened for local acts and was the DJ for Denver based Bugaboo for about 2 years.
Sean was also involved in MC’ing and created a full length Underground Hip Hop album in the late 90s. The album was never released.
A good friend introduced Sean to Jungle around 2000. He’d had other friends into Jungle and was no stranger to the Rave scene. Jungle just wasn’t an interest to him in the mid to late 90s.That changed when he heard Drum and Bass for Papa by Plug aka Luke Vibert. He delved deep into old school, golden era Jungle and Ragga Jungle for the next 8 years. He also explored Dancehall and Reggae deeply during this time. Making connections in the Denver and Seattle Jungle scenes Sean started DJ’ing at well known clubs like the Snake Pit in Denver and Club Nectar in Seattle. He started a series of mixes known as “Big Tunes”. The first four volumes of Big Tunes feature Reggae and Dancehall songs that influenced many of the classic golden era Jungle songs. The latest version of Big Tunes Volume 11 was released in May of 2010. It is a golden era Jungle mix. You can download all of Sean’s mixes at his music based website: http://www.thotskee.com
Sean ran a live online radio show based out of San Diego from 2005 to 2007 that featured guest DJ’s from all over Southern California. The radio show mostly played Jungle but also some Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop. He took a break from DJ’ing to focus on Flex and AIR development and start his AIR development company (Kannopy, Inc.) from 2007 until 2010.
Sean has resumed DJ’ing and started an online video webcast in early 2010. He’s also DJ’d for the 360 Flex conference (remotely). His new DJ webcast features mostly Dubstep but after collecting music for so many years you never know what you’ll hear on the show!
In addition to DJ’ing Sean started making his own tunes and exploring digital audio production. He’d always tinkered with making his own Hip Hop songs but he got serious about producing in 2005 with the help of a fellow Junglist and good friend Babylon Demolitionist (aka Baby Demo). Sean produced from 2005 until 2009, took a break for about a year and has been rocking out new tunes since late last year. He recently started a group with his brother called: My Brother And I. They do digital audio production in the styles of: Dubstep, Ragga Jungle, Dubwise, IDM, Downtempo and Hip Hop. You can check out their newest material at: http://www.mybrotherandimusic.com/
